DATA RECOVERY & DRIVE RESTORATION

Data recovery is the process of retrieving inaccessible, lost, accidentally deleted, corrupted, damaged, or formatted data from storage media when the data that is stored cannot be accessed by a system in a normal way.

WHAT IS DATA RECOVERY?

Data recovery is the process of retrieving inaccessible, lost, accidentally deleted, corrupted, damaged, or formatted data from storage media when the data that is stored cannot be accessed by a system in a normal way. Chances are, if you have found this page, you are worried that you have lost something that is important to you. Bitstream Forensics understands the loss of data can be catastrophic to business and individuals. Everyday, we have clients that need to regain what they once had. Just a few examples of this are clients who have lost 10 million records of customers data, a presentation that they were going to present to the board of directors the next day for a large corporation, years of pictures from their grown child's childhood, pictures and video of a loved one that is no longer with us, or they need access to a loved ones hard drive that has passed away. Sometimes delete was hit by accident or part of the drive the data was on went bad. Data loss can happen in a blink of an eye on drives that hold the most precious and priceless data. Some contributing factors that cause data loss are computer viruses, theft, ransomware, hardware failure, and destruction. Your data loss could contain anything from financial records, business contacts, critical business documents, personal documents, business operational hard drives, pictures and videos for business or of loved ones, and so much more. Bitstream Forensics can help recover the data that is important to you. We are dedicated to working with you to find out what is important to you, and that becomes our priority.

CAN BITSTREAM FORENSICS

RECOVER DATA FROM MY DEVICE?

If a device holds data, we will attempt to recover data from it. This could include desktops, workstations, laptops, all types of internal and external hard drives, mobile devices like cell phones or tablets, camera systems, USB drives, SD and mini SD cards, voice recorders, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, DVRs, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and much more. When needed, a clean room is used to protect your data.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING

THE DATA RECOVERY PROCESS...

FOR DELETED FILES RECOVERIES OR FORMATTED HARD DRIVE RECOVERIES:

Lost file recoveries, deleted file recoveries, and format recoveries work a little differently than other types of data recovery and drive restoration. When files are lost, deleted,  or formatted over, the files can become overwritten. When files are overwritten, we cannot guarantee which files will be recoverable. The only way to know if files are recoverable is to complete the data recovery process on all sectors of the drive. This will give us all recoverable files. Since we do have to complete the full data recovery process on all sectors of the drive, we change our full fee upfront as non-refundable. This means there is a chance you may pay the full rate and not get back the specific files you were hoping to get back. You must be willing to accept this risk in order to proceed with the data recovery service. Bitstream Forensics will make every effort possible to recovery your data, and most of the time we are successful.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING

THE DATA RECOVERY PROCESS...

FOR ALL OTHER DATA RECOVERY AND RESTORATION TYPES:

There are times when drives will have parts that need to be replaced to complete the data recovery process. Bitstream Forensics will not charge additional fees for donor parts, except in rare cases where more than $50 in donor parts are needed. To proceed, the client is contacted and given the choice on how to proceed. If the client wants to proceed, they will be responsible for additional fees from that point forward. The client should understand that when donor parts are needed, this could potential take extra time to complete the data recovery because parts might need to be ordered. Bitstream Forensics will make every effort possible to recovery as much of your data as possbile.

AFFORDABLE DATA RECOVERY & DRIVE RESTORATION

WE CHARGE FLAT FEES WITH NO HIDDEN COSTS. THERE IS NO COST IF NO DATA IS RECOVERED.

Data recovery can be very expensive, depending on the which data recovery company is chosen. Some data recovery companies charge $1 per GB and can add other fees on in addition to the standard price. This means that a common 2TB hard drive would cost a minimum of $2000.  Bitstream Forensics is dedicated to providing the same high quality service at a much lower price to make data recovery more affordable for everyone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

What is data recovery?

Data recovery is the process of retrieving inaccessible, lost, accidentally deleted, corrupted, damaged, or formatted data from storage media when the data that is stored cannot be accessed by a system in a normal way. The loss of data can be catastrophic to business and individuals. Imagine losing 10 million records of your customer's data, a presentation that you were going to present to the board of directors tomorrow, all the pictures from your grown child's childhood, or pictures and video of a loved one that is no longer with us. Maybe delete was hit but accident or the drive the data was on went bad.

what can cause data loss?

Data loss can have several causes such as accidental deletion by a user, virus infection, drive failure, formatting or partition deletion, file system errors, emptying the Trash or Recycled Bin, natural disasters, fire, water, device falling or being dropped, ransomwear or other type of cyber attack, and accidents causing device damage.  Data loss can happen in a blink of an eye on drives that hold the most precious and priceless data.

what kind of data can be recovered?

An attempt to recover any and all data including photos, videos, documents, databases, files, music, and more is made, unless the client specifies otherwise. Each case is different. Some clients only care about the recovery of one file, while others may need every file.

what kind of devices can data be recovered from?

If a devices holds data, we will attempt to recover data from it. This could include desktops, workstations, laptops, all types of hard drives, mobile devices like cell phones or tablets, camera systems, USB drives, SD and mini SD cards, voice recorders, CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, DVRs, IoT devices, and much more.

what do you need to recover my data?

All we need to do a recovery or restoration is the physical hard drive or storage media. If the hard drive is in a computer or other device and you are not comfortable removing it on your own, we can also assist with this. Just let us know up front, and we will let you know how to proceed. If there are specific files that are needed, we will need a list to make sure we get all the data that is needed back to you. This information will be on our data recovery form that must be filled out prior to Bitstream Forensic receiving your device.

When will I receive my recovered data?

Each case will be different depending on the exact device, the type of failure, & the nature of that failure. Bitstream Forensics will work with you to make sure your data is recovered as quickly and efficiently as possible. You will be kept up-to-date on the status of your recovery. We also offer an emergency service that has a faster turn around time. Please let us know if you are interested in this service.

what if I have tried a form of data recovery already?

Please let Bitstream Forensics know up front if any form of data recovery has been attempted on the device or storage media. This will have a great impact on how we proceed, so that as much data as possible can be preserved.  Some forms of data recovery, such as some home versions of data recovery software, can cause damage and permanent loss of data. Additionally, we need to understand if any internal parts have had anything done to them. If you have accidentally deleted files, data recovery software could potentially overwrite your data when the software is installed.

Is there a charge if my data cannot be recovered?

If no data is recovered, you will not be charged. If we recovery partial data, but you decide you do not want the data, there is a $100 labor charge. For deleted, overwritten, and lost recoveries, the full price is charged.

if I ship my drive, is shipping included in the price?

Shipping is a separate cost. Bitstream Forensics works with the customer on shipping to choose the best secure method of shipping for the client.

what will my files be returned on?

A hard drive or flash drive can be purchased from us, or your data can be downloaded for an additional fee. Cost depends on the size of the hard drive, but Bitstream Forensics works with the client to find a storage media that is cost effective and best for each client's situation.

what is the difference between data recovery & drive restoration?

Data recovery is the process in which data that has been lost to the user, and operating system, can be retrieved utilizing computer forensics/recovery tools. In cases where the files were lost due to data corruption or accidental deletion, the recovery process is simpler and least expensive. In other cases,  such as device malfunction or other complex circumstances, the recovery process can be much more complex and take a great deal of time. The drive may need to be repaired to access the data. The more complex cases are drive restoration.

How can I prevent data loss in the future?

Back up your data on a separate storage media device or cloud service to make sure you have an additional copy if the storage media goes bad or anything is accidentally deleted. Backups should be done on a regular basis to make sure the backup stays up-to-date. Bitstream Forensics can also help with your backup needs. Ask us how today!
